Cultural Anthropology


Originally from Michigan, Rita graduated from Beloit College (Wisconsin) in 2016 with a B.A. in anthropology and modern languages. She began her studies at Mississippi State University in Fall 2018. Rita previously conducted ethnographic fieldwork in Jamaica, Costa Rica, and Beloit, WI as an undergraduate and she taught English in Henan province, China for two years after completing her undergraduate studies. Some of her research interests include multispecies ethnography, human-animal relationships, conservation, and animal care and welfare.

Rita is co-advised by Dr. Kate McClellan and Dr. David Hoffman.
